George Albert Smith (1870-1951) was the Receiver for the Land Office in Utah from 1898 to 1903. He was called as a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles in 1903 and served as the 8th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1945 to 1951.

Jacob Emmanuel Bamberger (1852-1928), a native of Germany, emigrated with the United States as age 13 and settled in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He came West in 1873 and two years later became an employee of the Post Office at Salt Lake City. In 1900 Bamberger purchased the Daly West Mine and the Ontario Silver Mine properties in Park City. He and his brother, Simon Bamberger, developed the Salt Lake Oil Field in Los Angeles. Jacob’s death resulted from injuries to his spine suffered in an automobile accident in Verdun, France. His sons, Ernest and Clarence Bam-
berger, subsequently managed and greatly expanded his extensive holdings.
